"It's so cruel how things are only almost like they were before..." I love this song. It has honestly been on repeat ever since it came out. I love the storytelling, the simple, yet meaningful lyrics, and it's ability to convey so much emotion in a mere four minutes. There are lots of things about the story NIKI shares that many people can relate to. This song is for the people who have been in situationships, for the people who have tried their hardest to fix something broken beyond repair, for the people who have felt used, and for anyone who put their all into any kind of relationship only for it to fall apart. I am definitely crying to this song. There is no feeling like the feeling of being used. There's nothing worse than feeling disposable and replaceable. And the sad thing is, there are so many of us out there who have felt that way before, or who still feel that way now. At the end of the day, we all have to realize that it isn't a reflection of us, but a reflection of the other person. That, no matter how hard we try, that no matter how much effort you put into things, sometimes they don't work out. Especially with relationships. You can ask someone to do something a million times, and they still won't do it. You can give someone the world, and it will never be enough for them. And if they aren't working just as hard as you to make it work, the strongest thing anyone can do is walk away. Though very simple, I really like the lyric I quoted at the top of this post. Because there comes a point in time where you try so hard to make something work, but you realize that things will never be the same. There are some things that we can't forget, there are some actions we can't forgive, and there are some relationships that are not meant to be (this goes for both platonic and romantic relationships). But coming to that realization is hard. At times, there are things we want so badly to work and we don't want to give up on. So accepting the fact that there is nothing else we can do, is one of the most heartbreaking things to do. I don't want to make this too long, and I could geek out about this song for hours, but here are some of my other favorite lyrics. "Did anything ever really count This line >>> . That feeling where you weren't official, but they used you to better their future relationships, so you're debating on whether or not it should "count". "You were all I'd ever known As time goes on, we always brush things off saying "we were young", when in reality, those feelings and those moments were as real as anything and shaped our future selves. "And you couldn't answer mе You could never find the words or the courage to tell me what it was we were or where we were headed, but you could act as if we were something more. You could touch me like I was yours and you were mine. Author's Note: Thank you for reading this far! I really love this song and if you haven't listened to it, I suggest you go do so now! I am going to go sob and listen to this on repeat now. Bye!
